FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Taking pictures is not new for Raquel Garza.

“I have over 500 I believe,” she said as she held up her smartphone. “I always take a lot of pictures everywhere I go.”

Now, she’s getting paid to do it. A free app is helping her cash in on her hobby. She uploads her pictures to Scoopshot, sets a price, and waits for them to sell.

“I was kind of skeptical as far as if they really buy them or not, and I went on there and they had chosen three pictures they wanted to buy them from me,” she said.

With three pictures, she made 45 dollars. Several users have made thousands.

“One guy who was really active, he took like almost 10,000 thousand photos. He earned actually $20,000 out of Scoopshot for this particular assignment,” said Scoopshot CEO Petri Rahja.

Scoopshot matches photographers with companies that want to buy real photos, in real time, from real people.

Anyone who has a smartphone can download our app for free and start submitting content.

Users can submit any picture they want and set the purchase price — from 2.50 to 500 dollars or they participate in specific tasks for a pre-set price. Users have no control over which company will buy the photo or how it will be used. But that doesn’t bother Raquel, who says she only submits pictures of places and things, not people.

“It’s pretty cool I have all these pictures, why not make money off of them?”

If you do submit photos of people to Scoopshot, you must also turn in a model release form.

Scoopshot adds and keeps 30 percent to the selling price of each photo.
